Asuka Nirasawa, born in Osaka, Japan, is an artist and researcher currently residing and working in The Hague, the Netherlands. Following her graduation from Tokyo University of The Arts, she embarked on a diverse career journey encompassing graphic design, KIMONO design, and artistic pursuits. Nirasawa's experiences include residing in both India and South Africa, where she actively engaged in artist residency programs, allowing her to deeply immerse herself in the essence of these nations, their people, and their rich cultures. Her geographical mobility has profoundly enriched her creative sensibilities, serving as a wellspring of inspiration for both the foundational concepts and visual execution of her artwork. Nirasawa's artistic oeuvre is characterized by two pivotal elements: concepts and colors. Her work is grounded in themes such as "life and death", "reinterpretation of history", and "scientific philosophy". These themes germinated and evolved during her sojourns in India, Africa, and now Europe. Her extensive travels have instilled in her the habit of keenly observing local events within the broader context of a country or continent. Through these observations, she has channeled the myriad influences, be they the profound cultural legacies left by history or the less savory customs, into the conceptual core of her creations. As a response to her recent experience (2018 - 2021) in motherhood, Nirasawa's work has been focused more on the human body and pre-birth cell division. Her practice focuses on visualization of biological systems and the energy of the human being. 

Color - Nirasawa's mastery of color has evolved through her studies of color usage in various countries and her experience in KIMONO design in Japan. She often employs gray as a foundational keynote. In many of her paintings, apparently vibrant colors are actually juxtaposed with subdued gray to create visual vibrancy through differences in hue. Nirasawa deftly manipulates colors using principles of saturation, brightness, and hue, infusing her works with rich and varied palettes. Additionally, she enhances the depth and three-dimensionality of her creations by incorporating lines and small areas of complementary colors with low lightness, such as black, red, blue, and green, into her gray backgrounds. Her techniques harmoniously juxtapose elements like complementary color contrast, warm/cool color contrast, color area contrast, and lines.
